Covid Lockdown number One saw all live performances cancelled in March 2020. Right, time to do those DIY jobs and sort out the garden with that post Storm Desmond design I had promised.
Barely had I time to pick up a spade in anger than Spot On Rural Touring Lancashire were in touch to ask if I could provide some digital work for their Spot On Stories project: “A 10 minute video perhaps?” Silence. “We’ll pay…”
“How about two 5 minute ones!” I countered without thinking of the obvious difficulties of a confirmed luddite like myself trying to produce anything digital.
“Actually I’ve got three characters ready to go, I could find a fourth and do two 10 minute digitals?” I blundered on.
“It’s a deal!” The phone went dead. I went pale. What had I done?
I spent the next few sleepless weeks wrestling with my Nikon Coolpix, RSPB tripod and various hats, wrote a new character – The Butterfly Collector – and prayed for live theatre to return.
However I can now add to my CV – Film Director, Cameraman, Lighting Designer, Hair, Costume & Make-up Stylist, Set & Props Maker & Best Boy.
